Hospitality Intern: Beijing, Best Decision In My Life!| 3 min read

Chambers Event

In deciding in doing a placement year for my university, I was indecisive to where I wanted to go to do my internship. Part of me wanted to do something crazy but that meant that I had to force myself to step out my comfort zone, at the least. I didn’t know what to feel or what to think but, it happened. Before coming to Beijing, I was told how bad the city was and it made me prepare for the worst. However, in being here for 5 months now, I can assure you that this city is nothing to what I heard other than the air – of course.

It always amazes me when I meet people who travel so far away from home. I think, for people who come all the way to China to intern or study, they must be really keen. They all have a similar mindset as you and that’s how you immediately connect with people here. They’re either here for experience or here to find themselves and being surrounded by people with the same positive mindset as you, really does motivate you to become a better person.

I am grateful that I was able to find this internship through ImmerQi because it has developed me as a person overall. I was able to gain valuable experience and also meet people from all over the world. In doing my internship with Radisson Blu Hotel, I was able to develop the skills that I already had and identify the new skills that I picked up during my time here.

One of the best memories of mine was when my best friend came to Beijing to visit as my late birthday present. It was truly amazing that I got to take my best friend around Beijing and introduce her to the other interns here. I took her to the Mutianyu Great Wall and that day, the weather was simply impeccable. We were both fascinated by the fact that the Great Wall has a history of over 2,300 years and that we were standing on one of the greatest wonders in the world. The Great Wall carries a considerable part of the Chinese culture and I was honored that I could see such a beautiful thing with my closest friend.

There are times, of course, when you miss home and count down the weeks or months till you go back. I did that for the first three months, however, now that I only have one month left of being here, I’m starting to miss it already. China is huge with so many places to see and explore and the only thing I regret is not making the most out of my time here in Beijing.

To conclude, my experience in China was amazing and coming here was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. I’ve made memories which I’ll cherish forever and made friends who I’ll never forget. Thank you ImmerQi for making my time here delightful.
